SMALTO
Smalto is a Latin word that describes the waterproof coating on ceramic and noble metal objects. Smalto, also known as enamel, is a glass substance that is fused to metal and ceramics at very high temperatures (800 degrees Celsius) for ornament or protection. Smalto is often applied to give artistic objects of design and artistic production their shine and coloration.

DENTAL SMALTO
Dental Smalto is the visible dental tissue, the hard outermost layer, covering like a mantle the anatomic crown of the tooth. It is supported by the underlying dentin and is the hardest and most mineralized substance of the human body. Tooth enamel, has a glass-like appearance and is semi-translucent, so the color of the underlying dentin strongly affects the appearance of the tooth. The normal color of enamel varies from white, light yellow, to grayish white.
